MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT

Dr. Steven Garfin, MD
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Now is the time to make your plans to attend and participate in ISASS13 in Vancouver - I urge you to make our 2013 meeting a "destination" event, not only for our world-class meeting program, but also to experience one of the best cities in the world.

ISASS continues to grow in size, stature and reputation. We are committed to represent ALL spine surgeons, and we continue to be focused on advocating for our members in increasingly challenging times. To support this advocacy work, we must maintain our commitment to science, innovation, and discovery - the hallmark of good clinical medicine around the globe.
And we remain committed to being an INTERNATIONAL society, as this provides all of us greater opportunities to learn from one another. Such knowledge and interaction allows us to identify and address patient access barriers to optimal spinal surgeries and to devise strategies to address those problems wherever they arise. Our goal is simple: to be the society that represents Spine SURGEONS.

Following last year’s meeting, an analyst for PiperJaffray wrote, "The agenda of clinical research presentations at this year's ISASS annual meeting was as strong as we've ever seen, as the efforts of clinicians and manufacturers to drive more robust and broad based clinical evidence in support of spinal fusion are beginning to bear fruit." And our 2013 program is shaping up to be even better - you will find a robust agenda, one that will provide scientific and educational information that will improve your knowledge of current and future devices and techniques, and that will ultimately improve the care that you provide your patients.

And don’t forget all that Vancouver has to offer. With its scenic views, mild climate, and friendly people, Vancouver is known around the world as one of the best places to live and is a popular tourist attraction. Vancouver is also one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in North America.

Our program covers the gamut: Cervical Therapies and Outcomes, Lumbar Therapies and Outcomes, MIS Technique and Results, Biologic Therapies and Research, Navigation, Image-Guided Surgery and Robotic Assistance, Conservative Care and Injection Therapies, Biomechanics/Basic Science, Sports and Spine, and so much more.

To that end, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the ISASS13 Program Chairs for their dedication to excellence and their commitment to all things spinal surgery-related:
  • Overall Program Chairs:
  • Basic Science Co-Chairs:
  • Clinical Science Chair:
  • MIS Chair:
  • Poster Chair:
Our goal is to include the best papers, covering the latest evidence on all aspects for the advancement of spine surgery, innovative surgical technologies, spinal arthroplasty, dynamic implants and biologics. We will offer the best of scientific academic programming for our attendees, as well as great interactive opportunities for our industry partners.

For spine surgeons around the world, ISASS13 offers the latest global learning opportunities and the chance to network with some of the world’s best spine surgeons.

Please join us in Vancouver!

Steven Garfin, MD
ISASS President
